About this wine

Bacchus is the grape that made people take English still wine seriously, and the lower slope at Marledon, where the chalk is closest to the surface, suits it perfectly. It ripens early, keeps its acidity and smells, when you walk the rows in September, exactly like the elderflower in the hedges around it.

We pick it in the cool of the morning, press it straight away and ferment it slowly at low temperature in steel, to keep every bit of that aroma. There is no oak and nothing added for sweetness.

On a warm afternoon it is the wine most of our visitors take home, and the one we pour first on every tour.

“Lunch at a long table between the rows, a glass of each wine with each course. The Bacchus with the crab tart is the best thing I ate all summer.”
Marion T., London, after a tour & long-table lunch
